Upon hearing the city of Santorini, Greece people would often think of the movie “Mamma Mia” or simply the beautiful whitewashed buildings adorned with blue accents, steep cliffs, and one of the best sunset views in the world.
Back in October 2018, I was finally able to visit one of the destinations in my bucket list – the Santorini island in Greece.
In order to reach this beautiful island, I had to take a high-speed ferry from Piraeus, the port of Athens.
The travel time was around 4 hours.
Thankfully, the wind was not that strong but not too slow either; thus, the captain of the ferry was able to make use of the sea wave to navigate the boat up until we arrived safely in the island of Santorini.
I took my luggage, disembarked the ferry then a tour representative welcomed me and brought me to El Greco hotel, located in Fira. It was a shame that I was not able to roam the village of Fira because it began to rain – so all I could do was hope for a better weather the next day.
The following day, I was picked up by a tour representative and was brought to Oia. Luckily for me, it was a beautiful weather.
Upon setting foot in Oia, I was utterly excited that I could feel the cold breeze of the wind and a little bit of sunlight – a perfect weather. It was not too hot nor too cold, just perfect.
After learning a couple of facts about this city from the guide, I decided to roam its vicinity.
The first thing I did was to find a restaurant where I could have my lunch. Meanwhile, I took pictures of Oia – it was a worthwhile moment. The entire time that I was in the city, I found myself mesmerized by the beauty of the place.
I was in awe each step of my voyage.
Later on, I was brought back to the hotel. After few hours, my colleague and I decided to explore Fira. It was only a 10-minutes’ walk from the hotel. We stayed in the restaurant for a couple of hours because we wanted to witness the sunset.
Luckily for us, we found a perfect spot to witness the sunset of Santorini.
At exactly 6:00PM, the sun began to set.
I was in awe. breathless. amazed. no words can explain this very moment.
I have heard this famous saying that goes like “watching the sunset makes you feel stronger” – I can attest that at this very moment I felt as if all my worries were lifted from my shoulders.
No loneliness. No pain. I felt like
God was right before me saying “lift up your hands to me, I got you!”
The next day, my colleagues and I prepared our things as we were leaving this beautiful city.
Taking the ferry back to Piraeus, and heading towards the airport – it was definite that I was headed home for unforgettable memories of Santorini.
Thank you, Profil Holidays, for giving me the opportunity to witness a beautiful moment in my life.
Without doubt, Santorini – you are truly, madly, deeply amazing!
