Iceland is definitely a destination on many peoples’ bucket list! There are a lot of reasons why it would be – from volcanoes, beautiful waterfalls and the breathtaking scenery found in every corner of the Nordic island.
Iceland will definitely capture your heart in a way that no other country can.
Mostly known for the winter season, find yourself in peak darkness for a long period of time. The sun rises late in the morning and sets early in the evening.
However, even though the sunlight does not rise as early as other countries, the Nordic region has a lot to offer—the Northern Lights is a must do (although it is not guaranteed, witnessing it is a one of a kind experience worth remembering for a lifetime!)
1. One of the Safest Countries in the World
Iceland has a small population and a low crime rate – it is a great destination for solo travelers and females alike.
Back in 2009, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir became the first openly gay head of government in the world, making it a country safe for the LGBTQ+ community.
2. Clean and Organized
It is without doubt that the first thing one would notice upon arriving Iceland is how amazingly clean and organized the city is. Given that Iceland has natural sources to hydro and geothermal energy, the city is considered to be the cleanest consumer in the world.
I stood there, upon stepping on the Nordic land – inhaling the air into my lungs and exhaling through my mouth; my lungs felt the cleanliness of the air. There was only little to zero dirt particles roaming the air. It felt great to breathe in the clean oxygen.
The tap water was also safe to drink considering that the water roaming the land is clean from any dirt and bacteria molecules. It tasted much better than bottled water from the supermarkets!
Note: However, it is up to the precaution of the individual whether they want to take the risk of drinking tap water.
3. In Summer - you have unlimited daylight ! In Winter - you will short daylights !
Yes, Iceland is known for its famous Midnight Sun and Northern Lights. That is what makes the country a one of a kind place to visit all year round.
During the summer, the sun will set around midnight – yes, around midnight. Daylights are extremely long during the summer. The best time to witness the Midnight Sun would be between mid-May until mid-August. Known as the summer solstice, the peak of the Midnight Sun in Iceland is around the 21st of June.
